AUDITORIUM
This forms the centrepiece of the Communcity Centre. It opens directly off the plaza. The seating capacity could range is recommended to be 750 and may include a fly tower. It can also be converted from theatre seating to flat space, or be reduced to a more intimate theatre. The foyer is a generous double height space with a bar, ticketing and cloak room.
The space is grand and dramatic with natural light, rich timber lined ceilings and angular walls. There is a generous side stage area with loading bay and links to backstage dressing rooms, green room and storage.
COMMUNITY AND ARTS BUILDING PERFORMING ARTS
A play house of 250 tiered seating capacity as well as rehearsal rooms are also proposed these will be laid out around a courtyard on the ground floor of the community and arts building, giving natural light and communal atmosphere. The foyer has a bar and kitchen and is a common area for users. Storage, toilets and video library. The theatre could include wings and a crossover at the rear of the stage.
VISUAL ARTS
There is general agreement that a separate gallery space is necessary and desirable. This would need to include security, temperature and humidity control in order to be considered for touring exhibitions. The art workshop, studios, pottery workshop, kiln are located on the top floor of the community and arts building for good natural light.
They surround a common area which opens on to a terrace. Kitchen, toilets and storage.
COMMUNITY ROOMS
The community meeting rooms are located on the first floor of the community and arts building and can be accessed from the sculpture courtyard up the stairs from the main courtyard. The large room has 200m2 area.
The Wakatipu Whanau Support Group and Wakatipu Abuse Prevention Network rooms are on the same floor. Potential for other community groups.
FAMILY USE
The childcare facilities are adjacent to a terraced park and have a secure outdoor play area. They are opposite the Wakatipu Toy Library and another community room, which opens onto a private sunny terrace. Youth rooms are also included.
CAR PARKING
The underground car park occupies almost the full area of the site and is on two levels.
